Company Structure, Workflow, Personnel
Multiple factors such as work flows, internal personnel structure / organisation, procedures and processes, and intangible issues such as employee behavior and attitude, supervisor and manager deficiencies, ‘it’s the way it is always done’, etc can individually or collectively restrict a business operation.
Frequently issues are ‘not seen’ or are ignored because there is not the knowledge, experience or recognition that it is an issue. The day to day stresses of running the business causes management to overlook issues with the target to get through the day, week, month end, quarterly figures and yearly results.
The simple step of looking critically at the operation can identify inefficiencies, improvements, and resolve internal personnel issues quickly and effectively.
With over 30 years experience at all levels from shop floor to the Board Room I provide an independent set of eyes to assist companies. Having seen operations from roles throughout businesses I have gained an appreciation of of how things appear and the perceptions at all stages.
Company Policies and Procedures
Over the last 5 years as a business advisor I have frequently been surprised at the number of companies who do not have a complete / effective set of company policies and procedures in place. This has led to inappropriate behavior, uncertainty in function, disputes, lack of boundaries and ultimately major issues for the business. Several times I have been requested to urgently prepare documentation to curb inappropriate and unacceptable behavior.
In response I have developed a format of company policies and procedures which are tuned and modified to create a bespoke set of documents for individual companies. This service also includes presentations to staff introducing the new policies, their intention, function and implementation.
Company Metrics
Another surprise when working with businesses as an independent advisor is the number of operations who do not measure internal functions. The use of effective company metrics can help identify achievements, areas of improvement, bottlenecks, issues, etc. I work with businesses to create meaningful metrics, improving business efficiency and performance.
